‘A floating extravaganza of family fun with a procession of decorated floats, live music, entertainment and fireworks at dusk.’
Every two years, during the third week of August, a 500-metre stretch of the Royal Military Canal in Hythe, Kent is transformed into an open-air theatre.
During the week, visitors and locals are treated to music from a variety or bands and singers. The focal point is Wednesday’s Grand Parade, a celebration of creativity and teamwork in a flotilla of decorated barges, tugged by hardy rowers.
This year, the team is also planning additional fringe events to bring together the canal and the longest high street in Kent.
The event is run by a dedicated team of unpaid volunteers who organise the event every other year.
Tickets can be bought on the Hythe Venetian Fete website, as this is an external event to the RH&DR.
