The Model Railway Exhibition is found above the Heywood Buffet and is a fine way to spend time waiting for your next train. The main exhibition is a fantastic OO guauge layout featuring computer-controlled trains that depict expresses, freight-trains and branch operations from all over Europe and from different periods in time. Detailed stations, factories, sidings and landscapes complete the picture.
Push the buttons to turn the turntable, shunt in the yard or see the mountain railway in action. The walls of the museum feature the RH&DR story in words and pictures, as well as posters from the railways past, pictures of special events and of the locomotives in days gone by. You will find several small gauge steam locomotives, examples of different gauge model railway sets and some of the trains that used to run-around the museum on the original O guage layout, that was replaced by the current model in 1978, when it was known as Model Land. Other exhibits include toy collections from various periods in history that are bound to jog some memories. Two Thomas the Tank engine and Friends display cabinets provide moments of enjoyment for the younger ones.
