The station at Hythe is on the banks of the Royal Military Canal, which runs with the line as the train approaches the terminus.

The town is a brisk fifteen minute walk from the station. The ancient Cinque Port boasts good shopping facilities with restaurants, cafes, pubs, banks, supermarkets, antique shops, general shops, swimming baths, gardens, parks and a seafront.

The track layout at Hythe Station hasn't really changed too much over the years. The major changes being the arrival in 1937 of a siding with ramp and hopper-station for delivery of ballast transported on the railway from a ballast pit near Maddieson's (Romney Sands). This has now been replaced by the car-park.

Hythe retains the central locomotive shunting line. It is worth waiting to watch the locomotive that has just hauled your train reverse down this line and marshal itself onto the turntable, and then return to the train ready for the journey back towards New Romney.

Good car parking facilities are to be found at Hythe along with a well-stocked railway shop selling RH&DR souvenirs, railway books and publications, toys, gifts, confectionery and camera supplies. The platforms are covered and passengers can wait in the booking hall. This is also where the disabled toilet facilities are located.

Nearby, the Light Railway Cafe (not RH&DR owned) offers a full range of meals and refreshments.

Graham Lindley has produced a fabulous working model layout of Hythe Station, which he usually displays at the Annual RH&DR Steam and Diesel Gala.
