BooksLocomotives of the RH&DRby Tony Crowhurst
This book is now out of print and no longer available from any of our railway shops. Romney Rememberedby various
Contributors include John Snell reflecting on the state of the Railway when he took over in 1972. George Barlow recalls how in the early 50s, the railway pioneered super-heated boilers in the narrow-gauge circle. Dick Hardy remembers his visits to Romney over a number of years. This book provides a nostalgic look at the railway and is sure to stimulate memories of any reader that happens across this little book. With over 100 pages, including 80 photographs from all eras of the railways history (most previously unpublished in a book) this book is a must for every Romney enthusiast and a perfect gift for any train fan. Priced at only £5.50, this book is available at all RH&DR shops, or by mail-order (+ £2.00p P&P for mail-order) from: The Railway Shop, One Man's Railwayby J. B. Snell A fine book that goes between the lines and facts and figures to provide more hints and insights about the events that gave birth to and shaped the RH&DR. Many fine photographs are also included in this publication which is written by the RH&DRs former Managing Director. The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railwayby W.J.K. Davies Drawing on many documents and official records, this has been seen as the 'official' history of the RH&DR, although it is never called that. Many facts and figures (rolling stock, locos, track layouts, visiting locos, locos never built, tickets, etc.), it has a final chapter that brings us up to the the mid-1980's and the purchase of 'John Southland'. Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Colourby Derek Smith Compiled by Derek Smith, this Ian Allen publication uses colour images from 1955 to the 90's to highlight some of the visual changes to the Romney loco fleet and the railway in general. A lovely book that will entertain you and the children time and time again. This book is now out of stock. Little Trains of Britainby John Timpson A smashing book that captures many of the miniature lines throughout the British Isles: Isle of Man Railway, Snowdon Mountain Railway, Ravenglass and Eskdale, Ffestiniog Railway, Wells and Wallsingham Light Railway, Etc. And, of course, the RH&DR. The photography is excellent and dramatic, the text takes the form of a journey on the line with history thrown in as the passenger contemplates the scenery. A fact panel on each line is also provided. Narrow Gauge Branch Lines: Romneyrailby Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith This Middleton Press publication by Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith provides a journey through time on the RH&DR. The journey follows the line from Hythe to Dungeness using photographs from the earliest days until the late 90's. This item is available in the RH&DR shops at New Romney and Hythe. Echoes from the Skyby Dr Richard N. Scarth This 270 page book is the result of several years
research from primary sources. It includes a detailed
study of the main sound collecting devices (including
the sound mirrors near to Greatstone and Hythe), 54
illustrations, some from rare archives, and 3 maps.
Apart from any contribution to the technical record
of defence, this is a story of forgotten scientists,
working to design early warning systems before the
advent of radar. Available in the RH&DR shops at New Romney and Hythe.
