A large proportion of the staff that you see working at RH&DR are volunteers
- and there are many working in areas that you don’t see too! There are no limits
to the roles that a volunteer can undertake, and the Railway could not operate
without these dedicated individuals who come from all walks of life.

If you have some spare time and would like to support the Railway
then we would love to hear from you. Opportunities available include:

Retail – assisting in our shops, serving customers, selling tickets
and generally ensuring our visitors enjoy their day.
Operations – those volunteers able to commit more time are able
to progress through various training levels to achieve competencies
in train dispatch, signalling and eventually driving.
Catering – join our catering teams at any of our four cafés offering
     hot and cold refreshments.
Bar Car – come and be a bartender on our specially-designed
Licensed Observation Car Gladys! Spend the day serving drinks
and chatting to customers from on board the train.
Model Railway Exhibition – there are opportunities to join the
team which operates and maintains our toy and model museum,
from chatting to customers to maintaining the large model layout.
Gardening – whether you’re an experienced gardener or a keen
amateur, there are always opportunities to assist with maintaining
and improving the garden areas around our station premises.
Station maintenance – for those who can wield a paintbrush
and enjoy making our stations look attractive.
Infrastructure maintenance – the more heavy-duty maintenance,
our working parties run at weekends carrying out all kinds of
maintenance on the track, station areas and level crossings.
Promotion – assisting at shows, exhibitions or special events
and distributing Timetables in your local area, helping us ensure
that everyone knows about our railway!

Even if you can only spare an hour or two, you help is appreciated.
If you are interested in joining us or have any queries, please email     volunteering@rhdr.org or pick up an application form at one of our stations.
